Fernando López
Flamenco Negro
This work of choreographic creation revolves around the flamenco tango, a flamenco style of Afro-Cuban origin developed in the outer neighbourhoods of Havana by Cubans of African descent, before arriving in Spain at the end of the 19th century. The history of this tango, which is erotic and burlesque in nature, provides an opportunity to reflect on the cultural consequences of Spanish colonialism, racism and classism.
